Whats happened in Uzbekistan has confirmed something thats troubled me. Both Georgia and the Ukraine changed their governments peacefully in ways that many including me would have thought utterly unbelievable. This is not a region synonamous with peaceful revolution. it looks to me like the Uzbeks tried to pull of a peaceful revolution of their own and are now suffering the consequences. Rather than promote more representative governments in the region (ie, the former Soviet Union), are these velvet revolutions going to encourage harsh crackdowns on anything even remotely looking like a protest?
