Hello folks, I have for some time been reading Atkinson's Army at Dawn and, as I have mentioned several times already, it really is worth reading. It offers unrivalled insight into the operations in North Africa, particularly the western part of the campaign, beginning with the three pronged assault on the North African coast by the Allied naval armada in Operation Torch and ending with the victory in Tunisia. It might be just that I wrote too few books on the subject, but it appears to me that despite being equally forceful, interesting and adventurous in comparison to the British offensive of the Eighth Army under Montgomery, the subject of the British-American offensive from Morocco and Algeria has been a topic rarely discussed in detail - and definetely not to such an extent. I cannot but recommend the book - and moreover, this title should be the first of a trilogy describing the whole process of the liberation of Europe. From the author's approach to the subject and the idea of beginning such a topic with the invasion into North Africa, it would suggest Rick Atkinson's inclination to concentrate on the U.S. Army, however, I must say that the author really did try his best to be unbiased. Anyway, it is a good reading Kind regards,
