Hi, Just to say that I liked the article, a nicely reasoned and well written piece of work. I have seen and read speculation on the actual effectiveness of the longbow against armour, ascribing the success of Agincourt to many other causes such as the wetness of the ground, lack of room, slowness and indiscipline of the French, &c., but I find it hard to accept that a weapon less effective than its "press" could have been so widespread on Mediaeval battlefields and so often a winner. I am willing to accept that there were other contributory causes for the defeats, but they were just that, contributory! I like your exposition of the threat of the lighter armed archers to heavily armoured knights and men at arms, too, distract him from the front and nobble him from the back!
